UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal crash involving school bus near Eppley Airfield
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Omaha Police identified the victim killed in a crash involving a school bus and car at the intersection of Abbott Drive and Locust Street near Eppley Airfield.
The crash took place Monday morning around 7 a.m. crews arrived shortly after.
An investigation by Omaha Police showed a 2005 Acura traveling northbound on Abbott Drive. According to witnesses, a school bus traveling westbound on Locust ran the light, hitting the Acura.
The driver of the Acura, identified as James McCoy, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene, said police.
The driver of the school bus, identified as Kevin Downing, 43, was transported to Nebraska Medicine. No students were on the bus, owned by First Student of Council Bluffs, at the time of the crash.
Omaha police closed the intersection until around 10 a.m. While the intersection was closed police helped direct traffic to reduce delays.
The crash remains under investigation.

One person is dead and two are injured following a crash between a car and a school bus near Eppley Airfield Monday morning, Omaha Police say.
The bus, which had no students on board, was traveling west on Locust St while the car was traveling north on Abbott Dr when the vehicles collided at the intersection. Investigators aren’t sure who had the right-of-way.
The individual who died was in the car, it has not yet been released whether they were the driver or a passenger, said police. Two others involved in the accident were transported to the hospital with injuries.
All directions of the intersection are closed causing delays near the airport.
