Lincoln mother surprised with new car

Confusion, disbelief, and utter joy. These were the emotions Christina Mesenbrink experienced when she was presented with a newly refurbished car on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

For years, Christina and her son had to rely on busing systems to get around. After investing a small amount of her own money, a nonprofit, Chariots4Hope, decided to surprise the single mother and help her with the rest.

“Lincoln, Omaha, such a widespread area so its very challenging to do life and just do the simple things without having a reliable car,” commented Chariots4Hope Executive Director Jason Hurt.

Jason and his wife Michelle founded this nonprofit in 2013. As owners of an Omaha auto repair shop, they encountered several single parents in need of long-term transportation. So, they decided to help. So far, the have donated over 190 vehicles, five of which were to Lincoln residents.

Christina commented that this car will help her reach her goal of going to college. She is also excited that she will be able to drive her son to several neighborhoods to trick-or-treat this Halloween.

In addition to Chariots4Hope, Nebraska Realty, Anderson Ford, and ResCare Lincoln all worked together to make this happen.

“When you feel like you lose it all or when you feel you’re, you know, down on your luck, just kinda keep your chin up and, you know, just wait for the brighter day,” said Christina.
