And then there were none.
Hungry shoppers used to be able to stop at the SouthPointe Pavilions food court for a variety of delicious of options. From Chinese, to Arby’s, it dropped down to only Valentino’s Pizza.
Now, it’s empty and scheduled to be knocked down this Thursday.
"The food court was really no longer a viable eating option for us," Julie Lattimer, Marketing Director, said.
No need to worry, you can still get your pizza.
Valentino’s Pizza is opening a new and improved pizza shop south of SouthPointe, near Famous Daves.
"Valentino’s came to us a couple of years ago and said they were interested in providing a new concept, more of a sit down restaurant with outdoor eating," Lattimer, said.
Moving the pizza shop is the first step in making room for the new sporting store.
“The food court will be the second phase; it will then allow us to move one of our other tenants over to this area,” Lattimer, said.
Famous Footwear, Michaels, Dress Barn and Austads will all have to move for construction of the Scheels project.
One of them, and officials won’t say which one, will take the food courts space.
It’s all in preparation for the $103 million project that includes a new Scheels three times the size of the one we have now.
I spoke with the marketing director of SouthPointe pavilions. She told me the mall could see some food stores pop back up. She says the main floor of the two–story parking garage will have open space.
Valentino’s Pizza said they will open their new location for take out and delivery this Friday.
