Mayor Beutler: “Politics have no role in police investigations”

Early Tuesday morning it was discovered someone had thrown a brick through a window of the GOP office in downtown Lincoln.
Later that day GOP leaders held a news conference.
A comment made at a press conference didn’t sit well with mayor Chris Beutler.
It was made by National Committeeman J.L Spray, who said:
"I think it is incumbent upon our mayor to enforce the law, and to take action to investigate this crime, and to follow through on it, so far there has been a lot of tepidness on the part of the police department here in Lincoln. I’m not sure why."
Mayor Beutler responded today in a release saying quote:
"It is insulting to suggest that Lincoln police officers would ever let politics affect their work to protect and serve our entire community. I am extremely disappointed in the actions of those who would suggest otherwise without any basis in fact."
He’s calling on Spray to retract his statement.
Meanwhile, security cameras have since been installed at the Nebraska GOP offices.
Executive Director Kenny Zoeller is hoping it will help LPD with future investigations.
"We want to make sure that they have all the resources necessary, I know that they are doing the best job that they can, and in any way possible we are willing to assist."
Zoeller says he is very appreciative of all the work LPD has put forth in this investigation.
This isn’t the first time a Republican was targeted.
Senators Ben Sasse and Deb Fischer have had fake blood thrown on their Lincoln office windows and Congressman Jeff Fortenberry had profanity laced signs planted on his property.
"We want to make sure that we work with the mayor to make sure that our political beliefs and ideologies will be protected and that we work together to make sure that we put a stop to all these acts of aggression and then also targeting," said Zoeller.
LPD says the act of vandalism is still under investigation.
