Sixth annual Railyard Rims in Lincoln aims to raise $10,000 for YMCA
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Members of 20 businesses laced up their basketball shoes for the sixth annual Railyard Rims event.
The event started Friday evening in the Haymarket with the Company Cup.
The businesses competed for the “golden rim” and, of course, bragging rights.
The event is put on, in large part, by the Downtown Lincoln Association and Scheels.
Todd Ogden, president of the Downtown Lincoln Association, explained how great it is to see the community come together.
“It’s amazing,” he said. “It’s just really fun to see the community come together with other community organizations to help support each other and help our entire community around. It really shows what Lincoln’s made of and what we can do to help support each other.”
The teams had to pay a $250 registration fee. All of that money is going to the YMCA of Lincoln’s Strong Kids Campaign.
The goal is to raise upward of $10,000 for the campaign, which allows underprivileged kids the financial ability to use the YMCA’s services and get them involved.
As Lincoln YMCA Marketing Director Samantha Huff explained, it is a service lots of people use.
“Last year alone, the YMCA gave back $7000,000 in financial assistance, supporting over 900 families, so that families can get connected to the YMCA.”
Railyard Rims continues Saturday at 10 a.m., when teams from across the region will compete in the Competitive Cup for their own “golden rim.”
