Fremont man accused of driving boat drunk in accident that killed Omaha woman

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An arrest has been made nearly three months after the body of an Omaha woman was found in the Missouri River.

On Tuesday, 22-year-old Garret Vanderheiden of Fremont, was charged by the Harrison County Attorney’s Office in Iowa with involuntary manslaughter.

He was also arrested on suspicion of boating while intoxicated, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

This all stems from a boating accident on May 29, which led to the death of 20-year-old Emma Olsen.

Four days later, Olsen’s body was found by Iowa conservation officers, just south of where the accident happened.

Authorities accuse Vanderheiden of driving the boat, which sank in the Missouri River near Mondamin, Iowa, about 15 miles upstream of Blair.

Vanderheiden was charged after an “extensive” investigation by Iowa conservation officers, authorities say.
