Kayakers help clean up Holmes Lake

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Kayakers graced the waters of Holmes Lake on Tuesday evening in an effort to help the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission clean up the lake.

Nearly 30 people showed up for the event. Some brought their own kayaks, but many used kayaks provided by Game and Parks.

The event was a way to get people who may not have much experience kayaking to get out and enjoy the water while also beautifying the lake.

Grace Gaard, an outdoor education specialist with Game and Parks, hopes people think about the power they have to keep ecosystems clean.

“[People] have the power to have a positive impact while they’re directly benefitting the ecosystem they’re using,” Gaard said.

Game and Parks hopes to do more events like this in the future. Check upcoming events at outdoornebraska.org
