Lincoln police dog leads authorities to fleeing suspect in small drug bust

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two foot chases with a suspect led to a small drug bust Monday night, according to Lincoln Police.

Just after 10 p.m., a traffic infraction led investigators with the Narcotics Task Force to pull over a vehicle in an alley near 17th and E Streets.

Investigators could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle, and they asked the two occupants to get out.

Police say that after exiting the vehicle, 24-year-old Anthony Mixan immediately fled, leading to a foot chase.

Mixan was able to escape the officers’ sight, but a police dog helped authorities track him down not far from where they had lost him. A second chase led to his arrest.

Police searched the vehicle and discovered “relatively small amounts” of cocaine, psychedelic mushrooms, methamphetamine and several prescription narcotics.

Mixan was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest.
