Tyson’s Treasure Chest hosts first ‘Deuces Cancer’ bowling fundraiser in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Tyson’s Treasure Chest foundation hosted a fundraiser Saturday raised awareness for pediatric cancer and gave families the opportunity to have an afternoon of fun at the lanes.

Ten years ago, the Chambers family lost their son, Tyson, to brain cancer. To keep his memory alive, they decided to bring smiles to others.

“He always had a smile on his face,” Tyson’s father and co-founder of the organization, Austin Chambers, said. “Nothing kept him down and he always wanted to give the shirt off his back to his friends, so when it came time to figure out a foundation, giving toys to complete strangers was right up his alley.”

Tyson’s Treasure Chest brings chests full of new toys to other kids who are battling cancer in hopes of brightening their day.

“Every now and then a family will send us a picture of their kid taking the toy out, and it’s pretty special to know that you can take something terrible and turn it into something meaningful,” Chambers said.

Saturday, the foundation hosted their first ever “Deuces Cancer” fundraiser at Sun Valley Lanes and Games, where the community could have fun while raising awareness for pediatric cancer.

Because this was the first year, organizers were floored by the outpouring of support from the community.

“We weren’t sure if we were gonna be able to fill all the lanes, but we have 160+ bowlers,” said board member Jeremiah Sirles. “Just to see people rally around such a great cause- it’s been awesome.”

As for Tyson’s father, he knows his son would be proud.

“I know Tyson would be super stoked to see a lot of people having fun in his memory.”
