Should you have to show your ID when you vote? One state senator says yes. Charlie Janssen has a bill he says would reduce voter fraud. It would require you to bring a Government issued photo ID when you vote.
About 30,000 Nebraskan's would be affected by the bill and opponents say the cost will be an extra burden to tax payers.
“There is a real definite cost to implementing LB 239 and it has a cost we uphold our counties and it will range anywhere between 15-55 cents per registered voter per election,” Larry Dix Of the Nebraska Assoc. Of County Officials said.
“All elections shall be free and there shall be no hinderance or impediment to the right of a qualified voter to exercise the elected franchise,” Linda Duckworth of the League of Women Voters said.
Senator Janssen says his bill would only be for those who vote at an official polling place on election day.
He believes his bill would increase voter turnout.
