LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – National Crime Victims’ Rights Week kicked off Sunday.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office shared a message on its Facebook page that acknowledged all victims of crime and encouraged them to speak out.

“During National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, and throughout the year, we want to let victims of crime know that they are not alone,” the sheriff’s office said. “Join the nationwide observation of #NCVRW2023 this week and elevate and engage survivors to lift their voices, inform policy and practice, and thereby effect change.”

This year’s theme is Survivor Voices: Elevate. Engage. Effect Change.

Events will take place throughout the U.S. this week, starting with a vigil in Washington, D.C.
