Behind the front, less humid but windy Sunday
After seeing an active weather period through Saturday morning, many reports across Nebraska tell the story looking back. First, storms developed in Wyoming on Friday, and those storms eventually made their way into Nebraska toward Scottsbluff and Gering, with tornadoes reported out there. A lot of hail came through those areas too, the size of baseball and softballs.
Then, moving east into central and northeast Nebraska late Friday and into Saturday, the primary threat was damaging winds. Gusts were reported near O’Neill of 76 mph and near Sutherland of 82 mph.
In terms of liquid gold falling from the sky, most north of I-80 were lucky to record decent rainfall totals. In and around Lincoln, most reports varied from about 0.01″ or less, up to 0.36″ in south Lincoln. The exception to all these rain gauges was one up in far northeast Lincoln that saw 0.64″, as seen on the map below.
While Saturday saw thinning clouds and temperatures still in the 90s, we are looking to break the 90s on Sunday. We saw 90s every day since last Sunday, and we’re looking at daytime highs in the middle to upper 80s this Sunday.
A couple factors change behind the front moving through the area, including our humidity. We’ve seen dew points in the upper 60s and nearing 70° for the past couple days or so, but by Sunday, dew point temperatures will be back to the 50s.
The other factor that changes behind this front is the wind. We haven’t seen too much wind lately, but it’ll start to pick up overnight Saturday and into Sunday. Gusts throughout Sunday will be nearing 40 mph in some places.
After Sunday, we’ll see many more 90° days into the first of July. Chances for rain next week look low especially in the first half, with the first chance late Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
