Nebraska Game and Parks teaches fishing at Holmes Lake

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A statewide initiative to teach people how to fish for free brought a lot of locals to Holmes Lake on Wednesday.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission had rods, reels and bait for people to use at no cost.

Game and Parks is hosting several such events across the state this summer.

“We really pride ourselves on helping people learn from the basics, you know, and get restarted, so to speak,” said Larry Pape, the commission’s aquatics specialist.

The next event in Lincoln is at Holmes Lake on Aug. 5, and all ages are welcome to join.

Those over 16 must have a valid fishing license. But you don’t need one if you’re simply helping a child or a licensed angler with baiting and other minor tasks.
