Lincoln mayor honors three LTU employees for helping LPD investigation

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Mayor’s Award of Excellence was given out during Monday’s city council meeting.

The award honored three Lincoln Transportation and Utilities Department employees for their helpfulness with a Lincoln Police Department investigation.

LPD nominated the three after they helped search a local landfill for evidence.

“Words cannot adequately express the level of dedication, professionalism, and selflessness shown during this unusual search,” the department wrote in the nomination.

Capt. Ben Miller, one of the nominators, said the employees were instrumental in concluding the search.

“They were using heavy equipment excavators and dozers to move the stuff for us so that we could search through it by hand,” Miller said. “And it was tremendously helpful. Without their skills, really, we would probably still be here.”

The three employees received a certificate from the mayor, a $50 gift certificate and a day off with pay.
