Garage fire at northeast Lincoln home caused $200,000 in damage, LFR says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Several crews battled a destructive garage fire in northeast Lincoln late Tuesday night.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue was sent to the home near 53rd Street and Leighton Avenue around 9:15 p.m.

LFR spokeswoman MJ Lierman said smoke could be seen from blocks away.

When crews arrived, the blaze in the garage was spreading into the home, and flames were melting the side of a neighboring house.

The fire was under control about 14 minutes after crews arrived, Lierman said.

The cause is still unknown, but the two homes and the garage had $200,000 in damage.

Lierman said the garage is a total loss and there were no injuries.  The home’s residents have since been relocated by the Red Cross.
