One killed in head-on car crash in Merrick County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Merrick County sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash Monday night.

Authorities say a 2014 Ford Explorer was traveling south on 61A Spur near the village of Palmer around 7 p.m.

The driver, 47-year-old Angela Williams of Archer, was trying to pass another vehicle when she crashed head-on with a Chevrolet Suburban, according to the report.

When first responders arrived, they took Williams to a trauma center in Lincoln, where she later died.

Officials transported the second driver, who remains unidentified, to CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island with serious injuries.

There is no update on their condition.

Williams was not wearing her seat belt, according to police, and alcohol is a suspected factor.
