Man Drowns at Linoma Beach

A 34-year-old Lincoln man has died after being pulled from an area lake.
It all happened this afternoon at the Linoma Beach Recreation Area just northeast of Ashland.
The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office said Derrick Broxton was taken from Linoma Beach in extremely critical condition shortly after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses said Broxton jumped off an inflatable iceberg and never resurfaced.
Friends and volunteers got into the water and formed a human chain to find his body. After a few minutes, he was found about 25 feet from shore.
Broxton was flown by medical helicopter to an omaha hospital where he later died.
Officials say he was underwater for about 40 minutes.
Linoma Beach does not employ lifeguards.
