Driver of stolen vehicle caught after running into Nebraska cornfield, sheriff’s office says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Firth man was caught Wednesday after he escaped authorities by running into a cornfield in Buffalo County, the sheriff’s office says.
Around 8:50 a.m., an officer saw a vehicle – driven by 18-year-old Christian Randels – that had been reported stolen in Sarpy County near a hotel in Kearney.
Eventually, a Buffalo County deputy saw the vehicle on Highway 30.
But Randels pulled off onto Cessna Road and abandoned the vehicle, a 2014 GMC Sierra with South Dakota plates.
The sheriff’s office thinks Randels ran off into a nearby cornfield. Several agencies, including the Nebraska State Patrol, helped search for the man.
Around 5:45 p.m., authorities found Randels and took him into custody.
He was arrested on suspicion of theft by receiving stolen property, willful reckless driving and obstructing a peace officer.
