Star City Shores hosts last day of summer swimming with a Dog Splash event

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Hundreds of hounds headed to Star City Shores for the last day of the pool season, despite some scattered rain showers.
Lincoln Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Lincoln Obedience Club, has put on this event for many years.
“It’s a longstanding partnership between the department and the greater Lincoln Obedience Club,” said Maggie Stuckey-Ross, Director of Lincoln Parks and Recreation. “They do all the organizing. It’s a fundraiser for them and we are pleased to host it here at Star City Shores.”
All of the proceeds raised go directly to the club to help support their work with animals.
Tickets cost $10 per family, and dogs must be kept on a leash when out of the water and their owners are only allowed to go in knee deep.
Event hosts say they would have had an even bigger turnout if it didn’t rain. Some years have seen over 400 dogs at the splash.
“It’s splashing in more ways than one with the rain that’s falling.” Stuckey-Ross said. “But the dogs don’t mind so we’re happy to be here.”
