LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln man led a trooper on a chase Tuesday in western Lancaster County, the Nebraska State Patrol says.

The patrol was notified by the Seward County Sheriff’s Office of a stolen vehicle that was thought to be traveling east toward Lincoln.

Around 4:15 p.m., a trooper saw the vehicle, a Chevrolet Suburban, on Highway 6 near Emerald.

The trooper tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver – later identified as 42-year-old David Ruhl – sped off through a home’s yard.

Ruhl then went through a fence and into a cornfield, the patrol said.  The trooper did not follow Ruhl.

About half a mile later, Ruhl lost control, and the vehicle came to a stop in the field.  He got out of the SUV and ran off.

Eventually, a dog was able to track down Ruhl, who was hiding amongst several hay bales, the patrol said.

Ruhl was taken to a Lincoln hospital for treatment.

Once he is released, Ruhl will be arrested on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, obstructing a police officer, criminal mischief and theft, according to the patrol.

The patrol said Ruhl could face additional charges in Seward County.  An investigation is ongoing.
