Higher winds, less haze heading into Thursday
The forecast tonight will include Volleyball Day in Nebraska, conditions for the Huskers football game in Minneapolis, and the full moon. A lot going on! We’ve had quite a haze over the city, dropping visibilities a bit. A photo captured from our Berry Law camera shows the smoke lingering in Lincoln this evening.
Lighter winds shifting direction helped “stall” the heavier concentrations, but you can still track current air quality at airnow.gov.
The rest of this evening, it’ll be the hazy skies that are the only thing acting against us. Winds will be picking up and breezy overnight, but temperatures will be rather pleasant heading through first serve for Nebraska at 7:00 p.m. and the concert after.
The air quality alert will continue through noon on Thursday. Anywhere from moderate to unhealthy conditions are expected through this period, as wind speed and other small factors can quickly play a role.
We will see improvements to the air quality in far eastern Nebraska come Thursday morning. Heaviest concentrations near the surface will shift more toward central Nebraska with winds picking up out of the south and southeast.
Not only is volleyball happening during the work week, but the Huskers first football game in Minnesota is tomorrow. Looking into the forecast for Minneapolis, it’ll be great weather.
Highs will be near the low 80s with sunshine for tailgating before the game. Kickoff by 7 p.m. may see very light rain nearby, but that is quick to move on. Temperatures will fall to the lower 70s for the end of the game.
Back here in Lincoln, another comfortable day with temperatures into the mid and upper 80s by the afternoon. Plenty of sunshine to go around, it’ll be our last day in the 80s for a while.
We jump back to the 90s by Friday. Beyond that, we could be flirting with records by Sunday and Monday as we near triple-digit heat again. This time, the good news is the humidity looks to remain at bay.
