Lincoln Police release information on two shooting investigations

Lincoln police on Wednesday afternoon released information on two investigations.
In the shooting last Thursday, police determined 48–year–old Adnan Almansouri shot and killed 35–year–old Rasha Khaled in their home in northwest Lincoln.
“Numerous interviews and forensic evidence recovered from the residence suggest that Rasha had a volatile relationship with Adnan characterized by a history of verbal disputes,” Chief Jeff Bliemeister of the Lincoln Police Department said.
Almansouri then shot and killed himself and the couple’s five children were home at the time, but were unharmed and are now with a family member.
In the other investigation, police say 54–year–old Rachel Garten and 58–year–old Eric Garten took their own lives in their home in April.
“Investigators from our criminal investigation unit and crime scene technicians continue to analyze evidence but the interview and forensic evidence that we have indicate that Rachel Garten took her own life followed by the same action by Eric Garten,” Bliemeister said.
With the release of both of these cases, it leads Lincoln police and mental health professionals stressing the importance of suicide prevention and how you can help someone you love.
“In these cases that individual is also giving those signs and symptoms as well and that they see loved one passing away and then they themselves cannot live without them in their mind and they themselves take that action as well,” Dr. Dave Miers a manager of mental health services for Bryan Health.
If you are feeling the effects of any type of mental illness it’s completely normal and very treatable.
“Mental illness is treatable. We want folks to know there is help, them is hope and there are treatments available for mental illness,” Dr. Dave Miers said.
If you have any questions or concerns about someone who may be suicidal you can call 1–800–273–8255 it’s a 24-hour crisis hotline number that you can call.
Also, the Bryan mental health emergency department provides emergency mental health care/crisis assessments to determine if hospitalization is needed and it is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week at 2300 s. 16th street.
