The first Lincoln College View Farmers Market of the 2019 season

Local farmers showcased what they have worked for at the College View Farmers Market, and they say seeing the community come out and them is a very fulfilling experience.
“It’s fantastic that people are interested here in Lincoln, Nebraska to support their local farmers and that it’s worth it to them to come out on this chilly day and support us,” Jill Hengea from the Olive Creek Farm said.
After months of bad weather with flooding, and record high amounts of snow throughout Nebraska getting to the first farmers market has been quite the journey for some of these farmers.
“I mean we’ve faced a lot of challenges due to that and obviously the animals are always outside so to bring the product we have here today it takes a lot of time,” Dillon Koop of Tjaden Ranch Beef said.
These farmers also say that no matter which booth you go to you will get the freshest product throughout the whole city.
“A lot of the produce, you’re talking eggs, radishes or anything that have been in the supermarket for days or even weeks now you’re looking at stuff that is house old like these radishes I pulled this morning and it can’t get any fresher than that or your looking at farm eggs that are like 3 days old which are fabulous,” Jim Scanlan of Trackside Farm said.
While this is just a farmers market the small homegrown market helps them get their product out to a lot of new potential customers.
“It really helps promote us. It gets us out there people come by and they can buy individual cuts of beef to help get our information and they can go online and then they can order larger quantities and it really just helps promote us and expand us to larger areas more populated areas,” Koop said.
