Waverly Vikings oust Beatrice Orangemen in lights-out fashion

WAVERLY, Neb. (KLKN) – The Beatrice Orangemen were on the road Friday to face the Waverly Vikings on Friday night in a Class B matchup.

Waverly stumped Beatrice through the first half, 28-0, and handed the Big “O” their third loss of the season, by 42-0.

On Waverly’s first possession, the Vikings went the distance.

Quarterback Nolan Maahs connected with wide receiver Owen Stoddard, who turned up the field and ended in the end zone for the touchdown.

Waverly has a star in Maahs, who showed off his arm throughout the game.

To end quarter two, wide receiver Braxton Smith caught a 43-yard bomb from Maahs, setting up the Vikings for a rushing touchdown on the next play.

But Waverly’s offense wasn’t the only thing on fire.

The defense stepped up big, only allowing the Orangemen 14 total yards of offense through the end of the game.

Linebacker Broden Schaefer met Beatrice quarterback Crew Meints in the backfield, causing a loss of 8 yards in one of many defensive stands.
