Annual Lincoln Easter egg hunt catered for disabled kids

At the Abbot Sports Complex hundreds of families who have disabled children came out for one of the most unique egg hunts.
“You know with my daughter we did Easter egg hunts when she was little and she had no problem but with the kids with the special needs they have issue getting to them so it’s good they have the extra time getting to them and being able to pick them up and enjoy the Easter egg hunts too without being bombarded by regular kids that would go faster,” Jamie Rosenthal a mother of disabled child said.
For parents like Joanie Hemmer, whose daughter is a double leg amputee, having her daughter get the opportunity to experience Easter makes this holiday a little bit more special.
“It’s amazing we’ve to other easter egg hunts in the past where we just we got there and within a few minutes, we’ve left because there are so many other kids that trample her and she ends up crying and it’s not fun for her,” Joanie Hemmer said.
For these parents seeing other families who understand what they are going through it makes Easter egg hunts like this one much easier for them.
“So to have all of these parents and family member out here that understand when I’m coming from, I can understand where they’re coming from we get having kids with disabilities, adults with disabilities so their not running everybody over and it’s just phenomenal absolutely amazing,” Hemmer said.
