Man dies several days after assault in downtown Lincoln, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man has died after an assault in downtown Lincoln late last month, police say.
On Aug. 27 around 1 a.m., officers found 55-year-old James Baylor of Lincoln unconscious with a head injury near 13th and P streets.
He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, including a brain bleed.
After an investigation, officers arrested 22-year-old Angel Rodriguez Alvis. He was charged with first-degree assault.
Police said Rodriguez Alvis and two other people had got out of a vehicle and punched Baylor in the face.
Baylor fell and hit his head on the sidewalk. The trio then got back into the vehicle and drove off.
On Tuesday, Baylor died from his injuries, LPD spokeswoman Erika Thomas said. An autopsy is being conducted.
It is unclear if Rodriguez Alvis will face additional charges. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Sept. 27.
