Vote 2006: The Nebraska Primary

Congressman Tom Osborne conceded the G-O-P gubernatorial race tonight to governor Dave Heineman.  Heineman garnered 49-percent of the vote to Osborne's 45-percent with 97-percent of the statewide vote counted.  Osborne said this was a tough one to take.  He also said it was tough to lose the last one.  Osborne was initially considered a pohibitive favorite.  Heineman faces Democrat David Hahn in the general election.

After spending $4.7 million dollars of his own money in the Nebraska primary, Pete Rickets won the G-O-P race for U.S. Senate.  Ricketts won the nomination with 48-percent of the vote compared with 36-percent for former attorney general Don Stenberg and 16-percent for David Kramer.  Ricketts will face popular Democratic incumbent Senator Ben Nelson in the November general election.

Navy-Hero Shane Osborn says he was surprised to beat incumbent Ron Ross by such a large margin in the Republican primary for State Treasurer.  Osborn says we all know the power of incumbency.  We didn't expect to win by such a wide margin.
