Police identify Chicago man shot by officer at Lincoln Bus Depot
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police have identified the Chicago man who they say stabbed an officer in the neck at the Lincoln Bus Depot on Tuesday.
Simon Kafka, 27, was refusing to get off a bus at the depot near 52nd and Superior streets around 12:15 a.m.
When officers arrived, police said Kafka began fighting with them.
Police said he lunged at one with a knife, stabbed him in the neck and reached for the officer’s firearm.
Acting Police Chief Michon Morrow said another officer then fired their gun, hitting the man once.
Kafka was taken to a local hospital but is expected to be OK.
He was released from the hospital Wednesday and arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault on an officer, resisting arrest and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
The officer was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. He has since been released.
