Winter travel resources for Nebraska drivers

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Even as parts of Nebraska start experiencing snowy conditions on Friday, it’s never too late to start preparing for winter weather.

There are several resources available throughout the state.

Nebraska 511 is the state’s travel information system. It details road conditions, weather radar, construction and more. On the map online, green indicates normal driving conditions, blue means partially covered with snow, and purple is completely covered.

Drivers can also track the progress of state snowplows.

Another thing to keep in mind is an emergency preparedness kit in your vehicle. Your kit should include first-aid items, jumper cables, tire chains, snow tires, a phone charger and warm clothing.

Motorists in need of assistance can call the NSP Highway Helpline at *55 or 800-525-5555.
