Several causes in Lincoln look for donations on Giving Tuesday
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Giving Tuesday is the day set aside worldwide to donate to nonprofits.
In Lincoln, many different organizations were raising money on Tuesday.
The Hope Venture held a live telethon on Instagram for its feeding centers in India.
The organization wants to raise $30,000 by the end of the month and hopes that Giving Tuesday will get it closer to the goal.
Each meal a child receives costs 50 cents.
“If you give $100, you’re providing 200 meals,” marketing director Josh Petersen said. “If you give $200, that’s basically giving everyone in our feeding centers all across India a meal for the day.”
If you want to support the feeding centers, you can donate here.
Another organization looking for donations is the Food Bank of Lincoln.
Thanks to generous sponsors, donations will be matched dollar for dollar up to $60,000 until the end of the day on Tuesday.
“If somebody gives $10 today, it equals 30 meals normally — now it’s 60 meals,” said Jason Pauling, the director of corporate partnerships. “And so we’re really excited about Giving Tuesday and these matches and hoping to alleviate hunger in southeast Nebraska.”
Pauling said that there are 48,000 food-insecure people in southeast Nebraska and that 13,000 of them are children.

The YMCA also participated in giving Tuesday.
Staff members ran, walked, swam and biked all day to help raise awareness and money for everything the Y has to offer.
“All proceeds today will go to ensure that families will have access to the Y regardless of financial barriers,” said Dani Bryant, development director of the YMCA of Lincoln.
The goal was to raise $20,000 by midnight.
