Light mix possible for Lincoln Saturday; quite the warm up after
We’ll start out this first of December by looking back at the numbers through November. Lincoln’s warmest days came through the middle of the month when we saw a high of 72° four days in a row. The coldest morning happened toward the end of the month. And to no one’s surprise, we were short on moisture compared to normal. Lincoln received just over a half inch of precipitation in rain and melted snow.
But December 1st also marks the beginning of meteorological winter. Meteorological winter is December, January and February following a temperature cycle. We tend to see our snowiest and coldest months through this period. How does December stack up to the other winter months, though?
December is not the snowiest month. That title goes to February when we average above seven inches of snowfall.
And December is not the coldest month, either. We started colder today, but we’re in for quite the warmup next week. The coldest month of the year for Lincoln will be coming up in January.
As for Saturday, we have a small chance at some precipitation with a wave of energy coming our way. It may be enough to see some light snow (with maybe a transition to some light rain), but there isn’t much expected to come from this as a whole. Chances start in the morning on Saturday for areas west of Lincoln, with better chances through eastern Nebraska Saturday afternoon into the evening.
After that, we are going to be dry and on a warming trend. Sunday will feature temperatures closer to normal, then back to the 50s by Monday.
Some of the warmest temperatures look to come by the second half of next week. We are looking at temperatures in the lower 60s by Thursday and Friday!
