Inmate convicted of second-degree murder dies at Lincoln hospital

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An 85-year-old inmate died Monday at a Lincoln hospital, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said.

Leonard Svitak was incarcerated at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.

He was serving a 10-year to life sentence for second-degree murder in Lancaster County.

The cause of death is unknown, but Svitak was being treated for a medical condition, officials said.

A grand jury will investigate Svitak’s death, as required by Nebraska law.
