Salvation Army of Lincoln matches every $20 bill donation on Saturday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Salvation Army of Lincoln had a special day on Saturday for anyone who donated a $20 bill.

Officials said two anonymous donors offered to match every $20 dropped into the red kettles, doubling each donation.

Capt. Kelsie Moreno said so far, the nonprofit has raised about 60% of its $670,000 goal for the 2023 Tree of Lights Campaign.

She said while they’re a little behind, the $20 match should give them a boost.

“Any time somebody wants to step up and do something grand like that to really help skyrocket us toward that goal, we’re just so incredibly grateful.”

The Lincoln Berean Youth also joined volunteers at several locations Saturday to play Christmas carols and draw in more people.

Moreno said right now, requests for assistance are up. She added that more than 2,300 kids are registered for toys this year.

“We’re serving more than we ever have before this Christmas and we know that that need will continue to increase all year long,” she said. “And we’re determined to be able to serve those who come to us.”
