Law enforcement responds to multiple crashes as Nebraska experiences winter weather conditions
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska State Patrol said it responded to nearly 150 weather-related incidents on Christmas day.
That includes 28 crashes and 17 motorist assists.
The NSP said most of the accidents it responded to on Monday weren’t very serious.
In Lancaster County, it was not as busy for deputies as expected.
“We at the Sheriff’s Office were lucky, we only ha
d four accidents and seven motorist assists,” said Chief Deputy Ben Houchin. “A lot of that is because people were already at their destination and the traffic just wasn’t as heavy as it is on a workday.”
As Nebraska continues to experience winter weathe
r conditions, the Sheriff’s Office reminds people to be cautious on the roads.
“Give distance to people so that you have time to react, because it does takes longer to stop,” Houchin said.
He also reminded people never to use cruise c
ontrol on slick roads.
“Have good tires. Make sure your windshiel
d whippers work and you have the windshield fluids,” Houchin added.
He said you can always check road con
ditions before you head to your destina
tion using the 511 map online.
