Snowplow crews continue clearing Lancaster County roads despite short staffing
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Crews have been working nonstop to clear rural Lancaster County roads since a winter storm began Sunday night.
But Lancaster County Engineer Pam Dingman said keeping those roads clear hasn’t been easy due to a worker shortage.
Right now, there is only one shift of county snowplow crews.
“Our workers, they started at 5 a.m. yesterday, they didn’t really wrap up until around 6 o’clock last night,” Dingman said. “And they started at 5 a.m. again this morning.”
Dingman said the staffing shortage has affected the county for some time now.
“When you’re working on a snowplow for 12 or 13 hours a day, it is very tenuous work, very tiring work,” she said.
But despite the shortages, Dingman said crews will continue to work on roads to make sure everyone can travel safely.
