Long range outlook
How long will the dry weather hold on?
A large ridge centered over the Rockies will slowly spread east into the plains around May 5th or so. This will lead to temps well above normal. Unfortunately, we will have pretty dry conditions through about May 11th. This isn’t good for agriculture as we are slightly behind on precip for the season.
The main storm track is from Arklatex region through the SE US. This is where most of the precip and severe weather will reside through early May. By mid May, I do see a “stormier” pattern trying to take hold over the central plains. This would lead to more rain and increasing severe weather threat. I still think the main svr. weather threat will hold off until late May into June. Not a very active start to svr. weather season here in the plains.
