Two men shot and killed by Omaha Police

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police officers fatally shot two men early Saturday in an alley in south Omaha.

Shortly after 2 a.m., two off-duty officers were working at a business near 32nd and L streets when there was a “disturbance involving a firearm,” the Omaha Police Department said in a press release.

The officers shot Fernando Rodriguez-Juarez and Jonathan Hernandez-Rosales, who were in an SUV.

Rodriguez-Juarez, 26, and Hernandez-Rosales, 28, were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center, where they later died.

Police said a handgun was found in the SUV.

Because the officers were off duty, body camera footage is limited, OPD said.

But the department said detectives are examining surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

The officers, who were not injured, are on paid administrative leave.

Police Chief Todd Schmaderer asked for the public’s patience during the investigation.

“The Omaha Police Department is committed to transparency and our detectives, with the assistance of two outside agencies, are working diligently to collect all available evidence,” he said in the release.
