UPDATE: Lincoln Police identify man shot in leg Monday

UPDATE: Lincoln Police identified the victim of the shooting as Noren Walkingbull.

Police said Tuesday they are still investigating the case.

According to Lincoln Police, one person was shot early Monday morning near 14 & Adams Streets in the Belmont neighborhood.

Lincoln Police Officer Luke Bonkiewicz said a man was going door-to-door in the neighborhood telling people his friend had been shot.

Bonkiewicz said officers got to the scene and found a 47-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his lower leg and a laceration above one of his eyes.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Bonkiewicz said they’re still working to clarify the sequence of events surrounding the shooting. He said the victim does not know who shot him.

Police canvassed the area for witnesses and evidence. They haven’t made any arrests.

If you know anything about this crime, call police at 402-441-6000.

Bonkiewicz said the NW Lincoln Patrol Team is working with the Belmont community to ensure residents are safe. They recently held a Community Conversation where residents voiced concerns and needs to officers. He said citizens have taken ownership of the safety of their neighborhood and officers will continue to support those efforts and collaborate with residents.
