Minor driver topped 120 mph on I-80, drove in median and ditches, authorities say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A youth in a stolen car led law enforcement on a high-speed 17-mile chase on Interstate 80 on Tuesday, authorities say.

Shortly before 4 p.m., the York County Sheriff’s Office learned that a stolen 2024 Nissan Altima may be traveling through the county.

A few minutes later, a deputy saw the vehicle near York and tried to pull it over.

But the driver kept going west on I-80, the sheriff’s office said.

The vehicle topped 120 mph during the chase, according to authorities, and sometimes drove in the eastbound lanes, through the median and in ditches.

The chase ended just south of Aurora when the car hit the back of a semitrailer.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to a Grand Island hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Authorities said the name of the driver will not be released because they are a minor.
