Lincoln City Libraries to resume charging late fees

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) will resume charging late fees on Aug. 13.

Overdue fines had been suspended while the libraries were closed due to the pandemic. The new return date applies to all items borrowed before March 22, during the closure, and/or with a July 1 due date.

“We appreciate our users holding on to materials while we developed procedures to assure the safety of staff and library users during the pandemic,” said Library Director Pat Leach.  “Now that the branches are open, we urge our readers to return materials so we can make them available to other patrons.”

All returned materials will be quarantined for 72 hours before being checked in and returned to shelves.

Patrons are still encouraged to use online services to browse titles and reserve materials. But, if visiting the library, COVID-19 protocols include: mandatory face coverings, visits limited to an hour, limited capacity, limit of one computer session a day, limited available space and services.

Donated materials will not be accepted at this time.

All locations are reserved Fridays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. for individuals vulnerable to coronavirus.
