‘It means a lot more to them’: Husker fans invade Memphis for March Madness

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Husker fans invaded Memphis, Tennessee, ahead of Nebraska’s March Madness game against Texas A&M.

Hundreds gathered inside FedExForum on Thursday to watch the Huskers practice.

Many of the fans drove throughout the night Wednesday into Thursday.

John and Seth Miller from Stuart said they left around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and didn’t get to Memphis until 6 a.m. Thursday.

“We slept two hours at a rest stop,” John said.

Some young Husker fans — Brix, Blaze and Gavin — also made the trip to Memphis with their dads.

They said the lack of sleep was worth it to get autographs from Husker players Keisei Tominaga and Josiah Allick.

Allick said those kinds of stories show what Husker Nation is all about.

“This team has been supported for decades basically chasing that same goal,” Allick said. “So I know it means a lot more to them than it does for me. They’ve been watching it their whole lives. For me, I’ve been a fan of it, but they’ve been living it a lot longer than I have.”

Scott Groves and his daughter Quinn made the trek from the Omaha area. Scott said this is a bonding moment for him and his daughter, who goes off to college soon.

“This would be up there with winning a Nebraska football championship, and I mean that with all sincerity,” Scott said. “We’re on the big stage here, and we deserve it.”

Nebraska and Memphis tip off at 5:50 p.m.

You can watch the game on TNT.
