Omaha City Council approves emergency mask mandate
The City of Omaha voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve an emergency mask mandate, similar to that of Lincoln's.

After hours of deliberation and public comment, Omaha’s City Council voted in favor of a mask mandate in Omaha on Tuesday.
The mandate, which received a 7-0 vote, goes into effect immediately.
Council members heard a variety of opinions from those both for and against the mandate. They also heard from Douglas County Health Director Dr. Adi Pour, who was accompannied by healthcare workers.
Like Lincoln, Omaha’s mask mandate is effective for those 5 years and older and lasts until September 15.
A variety of exception to the mandate were laid out, including if someone has a disability, medical or mental health condition that makes communication with that person difficult while wearing a mask.
Other exceptions include seeking governmental services, eating or drinking at a restaurant or bar, or doing activities such as swimming where the mask would get wet.
Those in violation could be subject to a $25 fine.
Omaha, the 40th largest city in America, was the last of the country’s largest cities without a mandate before the vote.
