Passenger in fatal crash that killed UNL band member charged with tampering with evidence

Court documents accuse Vancordeyah Watson, 26, of attempting to hide two baggies of marijuana after he was involved in a fatal crash near 10th and Arapahoe. 

It was the October 26 crash that killed UNL trumpet play Tyler Butterfield. Butterfield was 20 years old. 

According to the documents, Vancordeyah was a passenger in the car driven by Waltrivelish Watson. Waltrivelish was charged with vehicle homicide involving reckless or willful reckless driving last week after investigators discovered he was driving 92 mph just before colliding with the Corolla Butterfield was traveling in. 

The documents said Vancordeyah  took a sweatshirt containing two baggies of marijuana and dropped them on the ground about 50 feet away from the accident site while first responders were treating the injured.

An officer later found the sweatshirt and the drugs. 

During an interview with Vancordeyah, the documents said a second officer smelled marijuana and eventually searched Vancordeyah and found another baggie of marijuana in his right sock. 

He later admitted to throwing the baggies of drugs, according to the documents. 

The said there was a total of 28.1 grams of marijuana found. 

Vancordeyah was arrested for tampering with evidence.
