Nebraska’s NCAA tournament run ends in the second round
CORVALLIS, Ore. (KLKN) – Number 6 Nebraska fell 61-51 to number 3 Oregon State in the second round of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament on Sunday.
Oregon State started the game hot, jumping out to a 12-4 lead in the early part of the first quarter.
Nebraska battled back but the Beavers kept their lead and extended it to 19-11 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Nebraska managed to bring the deficit to double digits, thanks to some buckets down the stretch by Logan Nissley, Darian White, Anika Stewart and Jaz Shelley.
Oregon State led 28-21 heading into the halftime break.
Once the second half began, Oregon State would carry an 8-point lead through most of the third quarter, holding Nebraska to only 8 points all quarter.
The Beavers carried a 35-29 lead as the final quarter began.
In the 4th quarter, hot shooting from Oregon State’s Lily Hansford, Talia von Oelhoffen, and Timea Gardiner held off a late push by the Huskers securing a trip to the sweet sixteen.
The Beavers shot 40 percent from the field, and 30 percent from beyond the arc connecting on 10 of 33 attempts.
Nebraska shot 31 percent from the field, and 21 percent from three.
Oregon State was led in points by Von Oelhoffen with 19 points, and Gardiner collected 15.
The Huskers were led by Jaz Shelley with 10 points, Alexis Markowski scored 8, and Logan Nissley collected 7.
Oregon State will take on the winner of Monday’s contest between number 2 Notre Dame and number 7 Ole Miss.
