Police identify man shot dead at apartment near downtown Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Police have identified the man who was shot dead Tuesday at an apartment near downtown Lincoln.
On Wednesday, Police Chief Michon Morrow said that 52-year-old John Armstrong was shot in the head at the apartment near 11th and G streets. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man who called police — 53-year-old Jacob Mulloy — turned himself in when officers arrived, according to Morrow.
She said Mulloy, who lived in the apartment, had known Armstrong for several years.
Police said that on Tuesday, Mulloy allowed Armstrong into the residence, where they began arguing.
The argument was over Armstrong previously entering Mulloy’s apartment uninvited, Morrow said.
“Jacob is indicating that he was pushed, and the victim threatened to assault him, and he responded by shooting him,” she said.
She said because Armstrong was not armed, the shooting went “beyond a self-defense measure.”
Mulloy was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
