Breezy, clouds clearing Tuesday; active end to this week
A few isolated thunderstorms overnight did produce small hail while moving through, a report of nickel-sized hail coming from Beatrice just after midnight. Another couple of pictures sent in by viewers found hail to be almost up to the size of golf balls.
Since then, the isolated showers and thunderstorms have mainly moved on. Cloud cover will be clearing this morning, leaving us sunny by the afternoon.
Generally, wind will be lighter today as stronger winds aloft have slowed. But gusts out of the northwest as high as 30-35 mph are still anticipated.
That’ll lead to a couple of “cooler” days – still quite comfortable. Wednesday will have very light winds with highs in the upper 60s.
The Storm Prediction Center now has a Marginal risk through most of Nebraska, including Lincoln for Thursday’s storms.
The better chance for severe weather will be in the Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk in south-central Nebraska – where large hail and damaging winds will be the primary concern. Hail up to the size of ping pong balls (1.5″) and gusts upward of 60 mph are possible Thursday evening into the night.
By Friday, that risk shifts east as some storms persist overnight and another round is possible by the afternoon. This is still four days out, but the greater risk for severe weather in eastern Nebraska happens Friday.
And still worth mentioning, there is a risk for severe weather on Saturday, too. At this point, that risk is nearby to our south and east. Our current thinking is that storms will still be possible later on Saturday into Sunday here at home, watching for a lower end severe threat during that timeframe as well.
In all, a very active few days to end the work week and through the weekend. Stay weather aware especially Thursday, Friday and throughout the weekend.
