There are 51 fewer offenders off Lincoln streets.
The Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force teamed up Thursday for an arrest warrant detail.
They patrolled the city in two-person teams, contacting as many offenders as possible. They did this in an effort to reduce the high number of warrants in the city, despite the recent Warrant Week.
They served 61 warrants, and attempted to serve another 430.
At the same time, the police department had extra officers on the street doing what they call a "saturation detail."
They patrolled high-density, high-crime areas of Lincoln and took a more assertive approach to any offenses they saw. Officer Angela Sands said it’s not always possible for officers to do this every day because they’re responding to so many calls.
Officers issued 236 traffic citations, 203 traffic warnings, 11 driving under suspension citations and 11 driving under the influence citations. They also arrested 23 for narcotics offenses and issued five misdemeanor tickets.
"Strong relationships between area law enforcement make these collaborative events possible," The press release said. "By working together, we are able to make a greater impact and work toward shared goals."
