Seward County deputy charged in deadly October shooting on I-80

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Seward County deputy is being charged in a deadly October shooting on Interstate 80, officials said Friday.

Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon said a grand jury indicted Anthony Gann in the killing of 43-year-old Jorge Luis Santana-Ramirez.

Gann was charged with manslaughter, and he turned himself in on Thursday, according to Condon.

He is no longer employed with the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Michael Vance said.

On Oct. 24, 2023, Santana-Ramirez was shot and killed after a pursuit on Interstate 80, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

In a previous press release, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office said deputies saw Santana-Ramirez with a weapon and shot him.

A judge set Gann’s bond at $100,000, meaning he must pay $10,000 to be released from jail.  His next court date is scheduled for April 29.
