State officials celebrate expansion of I-80 west of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – State officials on Monday promoted the biggest project of this year’s road construction season.

Interstate 80 will be expanded to six lanes between Northwest 56th Street in Lincoln to Pleasant Dale.

Gov. Jim Pillen, Sen. Beau Ballard, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation said the project is aimed at enhancing the mobility and safety of travelers and first responders.

“The I-80 expansion is going to not only grow our community, and propel it into the future, but also enhance the farm-to-market capabilities,” Ballard said. “This will benefit not only southeast Nebraska, but Nebraska as a whole.”

Other projects planned by NDOT this year:

  • Improvements to rest areas and existing lanes on I-80
  • Improvements to existing lanes on I-80
  • The interchange at 192nd Street and U.S. Highway 6/West Dodge Road in Omaha
  • A roundabout on Highway 77 near Wahoo
