Woman accused of DUI in deadly southeast Lincoln crash

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with a deadly crash.
Police said 40-year-old Deeanna Deets was drunk on June 8 when she caused a four-vehicle crash.
Deets was going south on 84th Street near Old Cheney Road and crossed into the northbound lanes, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

She hit an SUV head-on, police said.
The driver of that vehicle, 49-year-old Amare Biftu of Lincoln, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, a 49-year-old man from Rhode Island, suffered critical injuries.

Deets was seriously injured, and her passenger had minor injuries.
The engine of Biftu’s vehicle flew off and was hit by another vehicle. A fourth vehicle hit Deets’ car.
Deets was released from the hospital on Wednesday and arrested on the following charges:
- Motor vehicle homicide-DUI with a prior conviction for DUI
- DUI resulting in serious injury
- Driving with a revoked license
- Interlock device violation
